Featuring:
Spring-summer: sweet Douglas strawberries, juicy navel oranges, Hass and Fuerte avocados, asparagus, potatoes, mushrooms, honey, eggs, fresh flowers and dried fruits.
Summer-fall: blackberries, raspberries, boysenberries, tomatoes, white corn, persimmons, peaches, melons, grapes, green beans, okra, green peppers, Nabal and Reed avocados, apples, apricots, figs, and plums.

Location: Just east of the Felicita Avenue exit off I-15 at the corner of Citracado and Miller avenues.

Tuesday-Friday: noon to 5pm (until 6pm after daylight savings time)

Weidners' Gardens

Featuring: Spring-Fall: Impatiens, fuchsias, dig-your-own begonias; Nov-Dec: potted poinsettias, cyclamen, dig-your-own pansies.

The Vegetable Shop at the Chino family farm

Featuring: Multiple varieties of most produce: Tomatoes, squash, squash blossoms, beans, shell beans, dried beans, melons, cucumbers, sprouts, greens and lettuces, celery root, carrots, turnips, parsnips, salsafy, radishes, brussels sprouts, okra, onions, Jerusalem artichokes, peppers, herbs, strawberries, strawberry figs, Concord grapes.

Hollandia Dairy store

Featuring: All fluid milk varieties (nonfat, 1%, 2% and whole), chocolate milk, buttermilk, half & half, goat's milk (by preorder), yogurt, cottage cheeses, butter, eggs, coffee creamers, and ice cream. Also available are bread, orange juice, Tampico, punch, single-serving aseptic packagine of milk and juices. Wholesale-packaged ice cream, cheese and butter items are available with one day's notice, and the store regularly features a variety of promotional dairy specials.

The Lavender Fields

Featuring: 6 acres of growing fields with 16,000 lavender plants in more than 30 varieties; certified organic by G.O.C.A. Features fresh lavender, distilled essential oil and hydrosols, dried lavender and lavender-based products for aromatherapy, floral water, heat pillows, bath teas and oils, soaps, body mists, lotions, powders, sachets and baby-specific diaper ointment, bath salts, powders, washes, lotions and massage oils. The Lavender Fields are also a licensed nursery and offers for sale 4-inch pots of live lavender.

Hilliker's Egg Store

Featuring: Eggs! Brown or white, single or double-yolk, sizes medium to extra large, available in cartons, flats, boxes, pallets or by the truckload; fresh, unprocessed sage and eucalyptus honey from the 16 beehives at the Hilliker farm; in spring and summer, fresh vegetables from Hilliker's home-grown vegetable field are also available.

Location: In Lakeside off Highway 67, 1/4-mile west of Riverford Road on El Nopal Road.

Open: Year round, Monday through Saturday, 8-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-5 p.m.

Carlsbad Strawberry Company/Leslie Farms

Featuring: U-pick strawberries; three farmstands also sell picked strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers and other vegetables. Schools and group tours available.

Location: U-pick is just east of Interstate 5 at Cannon Road. Farmstands are located at Cannon Road and Paseo Del Norte in Carlsbad; at the entrance to the Carlsbad Flower Fields on Paseo Del Norte; and on Old El Camino Real near Fairbanks Ranch in Del Mar.

Open: The U-pick operation opens for the season in late March or early April, depending on the weather and field conditions, and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, including holidays. The three farmstands are open year round, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. including major holidays.

Menghini Winery

Featuring: As many as a dozen different varieties of wines, from reds and whites, to blushes, and sweet dessert wines. Several unique varieties include Julian Mist (grenache), Julian Gold (sweet Muscat Canelli), Julian Blossom (blush), and Mela (from Julian-grown apples). Many varieties are available for sampling in the tasting room.

Location: Highway 78 east into Julian. At Main Street, turn left and travel 2.5 miles (Main Street will become Farmer Road). At the intersection of Farmer and Wynola roads, proceed straight ahead, following the signs to the winery.

Open: Daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including most holidays. Menghini Winery also hosts several events during the year, from the San Diego Vintner's Association's annual barrel tasting every Father's Day, a blues festival in the summer, the annual Grape Stomp in September, and the annual Art & Wine Tasting Festival in late September. Lemon Twist

Featuring: Corn, oranges, tangerines, strawberries, broccoli, cucumbers, avocados, cherimoyas, and certified organic lemons, grapefruit, tomatoes, zucchini and other vegetables. Seasonal produce such as Julian pears and apples, Lake Wohlford peaches, Ruby grapefruit from Borrego Springs, vegetables from the organic Tierra Miguel Farm in Pauma Valley and eggs from Fluegge Egg Ranch in Escondido are also offered. Floral design department features Kalanchoes, azalea topiaries, bonsai, specializes in orchids, and has access to any kind of flower desired.

Location: 8175 Del Dios Highway, Rancho Santa Fe, just east of the Cielo and Crosby Estates housing developments.

Valdivia Farms

Featuring: Wide variety of squashes, mini-squashes and other miniature vegetables, zucchini blossoms, heirloom tomatoes (Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Great White, Striped German and Pineapple), and beans (French, Waxed, Romano, Dragon).

Location: Four weekly farmers' markets in San Diego County: Coronado, Horton Square, Pacific Beach, Carlsbad.

Casablanca Nursery

Featuring: Potted herbs (basils, parsley, cilantro, dill, sorrel, catnip and cat grass), potted green and flowering indoor and outdoor plants as well as cut flowers. Potted Gerbera daisies, New Guinean impatiens and Gloxinias are the nursery's most popular offerings, along with their sun basket products featuring many of the Proven Winners(R) collection.

Location: Five weekly farmers' markets in San Diego County: Coronado, Horton Square, Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and Temecula (Saturdays).

Cosgrove Cymbidium Company

Featuring: Cymbidium orchids and many other varieties including Phalaenopsis, Dendobrium, Cattleya, Epidendrum.

Location: Four weekly farmers' markets in San Diego County: Coronado, Horton Square, Pacific Beach, and the Micro Farmers' Market at the San Diego Tech Center.

The Good Earth Nursery, Inc.

Featuring: More than 20 palm tree varieties, including King, Queen, Canary Island Date, and Pigmy Date, Mexican Blue Fan, Mediterranean Fan, Chinese Fan, Jelly and Sago palms. The nursery also grows and sells tropical foliages from bamboo and birds of paradise to yucca as well as exotics like Tree Aloe, Ponytail palms and Dragon Tree.

Polito Family Farms

Featuring: Specialty citrus and avocados: Navel and blood oranges; Satsuma and Clementine tangerines; Eureka, Myer and sweet Persian lemons; Oro Blanco and Star Ruby grapefruit; Hass, Reed and Bacon avocados. Herbs and tomatoes seasonally.

Location: Two weekly farmers' markets in San Diego County: Coronado Farmers' Market (1201 First St. at B) every Tuesday 2:30 to 6 p.m.; Pacific Beach Farmers' Market (4150 Mission Blvd., between Reed and Pacific Beach Blvd.), every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Polito also participates in the following farmers' markets in Orange and Los Angeles counties: Corona Del Mar, Santa Monica, Westwood Village, Venice Beach, La Cienega and West Los Angeles.

Simpson'S "Garden Town"® Nursery

Featuring: 25-acre farm featuring a nursery, gift and pottery shop, amusement park, special event venue, vintage car, truck and trailer show. Nursery features selection of annuals, perennnials, grasses, herbs, cactus, succulents, seeds and bulbs; shade and flowering trees, fruit-bearing trees (ie: citrus and avocado), grape and berry plants, shrubs large and small, fancy topiaries, bamboo, ground covers, ferns and tropicals; vines, ornamental grasses, palms, cycads, pines, native and drought-tolerant plants, and specialty plants during the holidays. Two auto barns feature more than 50 Model A's, Model T's, hot rods, classics and muscle cars from the 1940s to the early 1970s. No admission charges.

Evergreen Nursery

Featuring: Four different stores ranging from 20 to 80 acres to drive through and select from hundreds of plants available in each variety. Your car is your shopping cart. Plants are grown, raised and sold on site, assuring customers their purchases will readily adapt to your own landscape. The nursery also sells soil enhancement products, sod, groundcover, shrubs, vines, trees, and a full line of soil and landscape materials sold in consumer-sized bags or in bulk.
