Here is a drawing of the world. A flat picture was drawn of the round globe of the world that you have in your classroom. The circle surrounds a region of the world we call the Orient. It is called the Orient because it is in the eastern half of the world known as the Oriental Hemisphere.
Some people from the Orient have come to live in the United States. Some of the countries in the Orient are: Korea, China, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. When people come to live in the United States they often bring foods they are used to with them. The Fuyu persimmon is an oriental fruit that is enjoyed during the autumn season in the Orient.
The Fuyu originated in China and has been planted in many countries. In the United States, it is customary to enjoy apples, pears, and grapes in the autumn. Now the Fuyu is becoming popular to eat as a juicy snack in autumn in the United States.
