Bees and Pesticides: Can we protect both plants and pollinators?
To maintain plant quantity and quality, nursery crop production requires regular use of pesticides to manage insect pests. However, the use of systemic insecticides could lead to unintended risk to pollinators through ingestion of contaminated nectar and pollen. In this presentation, we compare the residue of different systemic insecticides in the nectar of an annual plant, explain how they degrade over time, and talk about rates and modes of pesticide application that would cause less impact on pollinators.
